Saquon Barkley Named Offensive Player Of The Year At NFL Honors

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JANUARY 26: Saquon Barkley #26 of the Philadelphia Eagles reacts to his touchdown against the Washington Commanders during the fourth quarter in the NFC Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field on January 26, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Eagles fans have more important things on their mind this week, as does Saquon Barkley. But while Barkley is preparing to play on Sunday for his 1st ever Super Bowl, and the Eagles 2nd, the NFL Honors took place. A night to celebrate the greatest players and coaches from the 2024-2025 season. While Saquon could not be there, for obvious reasons, his name did come up. Saquon Barkley was named the AP Offensive Player Of The Year.

This award comes as no shock to anyone who has watched a second of Football this season. When you come within 100 yards of breaking a nearly 50-year-old record, you probably deserve some type of hardware.

Saquon Barkley’s Historic Season

Saquon finished 2005 yards and 13 TDs. He became just the 9th player to ever rush for 2000 yards. He could have even broken Eric Dickerson’s record, but Nick Siriannoi and the Eagles made the choice to rest him in the final week and prioritize winning a Super Bowl. We do not know if he would have broken the record had he played, or if there would have been some type of injury to him or 1 of the other starters, but the fact they are 1 win away from a parade, it seems like the right choice was made.

Saquon has continued that great play into the playoffs. 442 more yards and 5 more TDs. Like he did all season, he blew games open with multiple long TD runs. 3 more TDs of 50 yards or more, bringing his total to 9 such TD runs on the season.

The work is not done though. He has one more game to prove his greatness. This hardware is nice, but Saquon Barkley is looking to hoist a different, and far more important trophy by the end of this week. But until then, it was nice to see him earn a well-deserved honor.
