5 Real Things We Learned From Eagles Opening Night

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - FEBRUARY 03: The Philadelphia Eagles stand together during Super Bowl LIX Opening Night at Caesars Superdome on February 03, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

We are one step closer to Eagles vs Chiefs. Opening Night has come and gone, giving us just a few more days until the Eagles get a shot at not only making history but preventing the Chiefs from making it.

Opening Night of the Super Bowl is often a spectacle, but rarely a source of real hard-hitting news. The atmosphere lends itself more to silliness than it does to actually Football talk. Real reporters are outnumbered by internet comedians, influencers, and people out to go viral.

But buried in the silliness, there are actual things we can take away. Occasionally, someone gets a real question in before Cooper Manning asks someone a crazy question while dressed in a Marching Band outfit. Sometimes we do actually learn something about the game, the matchup, who will play, or something else that is actually valuable.

If you want the silliness, we have you covered in 6 Goofiest Moments From Opening Night. But if you want actual Football content, keep reading this article

Here Are 5 Things We Actually Learned From Eagles Opening Night

Brandon Graham Is Planning To Play

The first and best thing we learned is that Brandon Graham seems well on track to play on Sunday. The fact he was out there and had his own booth was your first sign. They don’t usually do that for people who won’t be on the field for the game. But if that wasn’t enough, his answer when asked about his status likely will be.

He also added “If they didn’t feel like I could bring something, they wouldn’t waste their time activating me.”

All of this sounds like someone who is not only going to be out there on Sunday but is coming to play.

The Eagles Won’t Lose Another Home Game To International Travel

The other day, news broke that the Eagles will play a game in Australia in 2026, and the reported opponent would be the Rams. If true, that would mean the Eagles would lose another game because their 2026 game vs the Rams is slated to be at home. After already losing a home game this year when they traveled to Brazil, the thought of losing another in a couple of years did not sit well with many fans.

But Jeffrey Lurie had some good news from Opening Night. He was asked about that game, and while he did not deny that they would play in it, he did say that it would not cost the team a home game.

He also said he is not interested in buying the Celtics. So we will not have a repeat of what happened with Josh Harris with an owner buying a rival team in another sport.

The Most Underrated Eagles

This is not learning something, but it is giving some love to Eagles players who do not always get it. Jalen Hurts was asked to name a teammate who he thinks is underrated. Instead, he gave 5.

Most of these guys are backups. Oren Burks was a backup until an injury to Nakobe Dean forced him into being a starter. Tyler Steen has filled in admirably several times this season when Landon Dickerson or Mekhi Becton had to miss time. Sydney Brown has been a key player on Special teams. Kenny Gainwell has been a solid backup for Saquon and made a few key plays throughout the season. Then Will Shipley, while he has hardly touched the field as a backup except for when the bench is emptied, forced a fumble on a Kickoff Return vs the Commanders.

It was good to see Hurts give these under-the-radar guys a well-earned shoutout.

Fletcher Cox Gives AJ Brown Some Hard But Needed Advice

Fletcher Cox is not on the team anymore, but he still is playing the role of a leader. According to Brown, Cox reached out with some tough advice, but advice Brown says he needed to see. “What you have done up to this point doesn’t matter, yu have to go out and prove it on Sunday.”

It Was Nick Sirianni’s Idea To Put Mekhi Becton at RG

Jeff Stotuland rightfully gets a lot of credit for turning Becton into a more than solid RG after he had never played Guard before. But it turns out it was not his idea. Stoutland was asked about the move, and he credited Sirianni for the decision to try Becton out there in the 1st place.
